Mother's Day Feature - Michelle Hon

Mother's Day is all about celebrating the women who have given us everything. For Michelle Hon, her goal is to help women celebrate themselves and pursue their business dreams.

We spoke to her about what it means to break the stigma around working mothers and how she has built a business to help other mothers build their businesses.

Why do you believe it’s important to break the stigma that mothers can’t be successful businesswomen and mothers at the same time?

Because it’s simply not true. There are many successful businesswomen who are also wonderful mothers to their children. At the end of the day, it comes down to what makes a mother happy. If she’s happy and feels fulfilled running a business, she is a good example for her children. The same could be said for a stay-at-home-mom too. If you’re fulfilled being a SAHM, that’s good enough too.

How do you empower yourself and other women to become business owners?

I’m always learning, because we don’t know what we don’t know. Through MomBoss Academy, we have 2 signature programs. #MomBossGoal is a business and marketing foundation program which helps moms to go from zero ideas to launching their business in 90 days. The other one is In-Demand, where we help struggling business owners attracts more customers and grow their business to at least $100,000 in profit.

What do you think is the best piece of advice for women who want to start their own business?

There will be tough days ahead (just like everything else in life). Skills that initially take you 8 hours to learn now become second nature. Every stage of growth requires you to go outside of your comfort zone. Get through it and it becomes easier and easier.  Also, do it for the right reasons. What is your big WHY to start a business? Your WHY will get you through those days. Without a big WHY, it’s very easy to give up.

How has your family supported you as you build your career and help other women build theirs?

My kids and husband know that it’s important to me. They give me the space and time to spend on my business.

As you celebrate Mother's Day, don't forget that being a mother never means having to give up your passions.
